Elisa WilliamsonElisa Williamson, President - Email / Trustee Area 2
Mrs. Elisa Williamson, a 30-year Carlsbad resident, has served on the Board of Trustees since April 2000. Her two children both graduated from CUSD; one teaches high school English and the other majored in Asian Studies and tutors at a K-8 STEM enrichment program. She has served as Board President or Vice President for 8 years.  While serving on the Board, she spearheaded the development of a Governance Handbook, District Vision Statement, and the Continuous Improvement process. She was the co-chair of the Prop P bond campaign and has sat on numerous committees, include Strategic Planning, GATE, Superintendent selection, and Graduate Profile. She received a "Masters in Governance" certification through the California School Boards Association. Ms. Williamson earned a Master's Degree in Business Education from Brigham Young University and worked for several years as a communications specialist and part-time teacher. She just completed two years of facilitating a weekly student gathering to prepare adults for college success. She is currently the Director of Marketing for a Registered Investment Advisor. 

Ray PearsonRay Pearson, Vice President - Email / Trustee Area 3
Mr. Ray Pearson was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2014. Born and raised in Southern California, Ray attended California public schools and received a B.S. from California State University, Los Angeles. Ray is married and has three adult children, with his youngest graduating from Carlsbad High School. He has a 30+ year business career working for companies in the science, technology, engineering, and math industries. Ray has over 40 years of community involvement with the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, Rotary Club, North Coastal Prevention Coalition, City of Carlsbad Senior Commission, Mitchell Thorp Foundation, CHS Baccalaureate Committee, Proposition P Oversight Committee, Parent Association Board, and CHS School Site Council.  He acts as a judge for the CHS Speech and Debate tournaments, and recruits community members to serve as speech and debate judges. Ray is committed to ensuring a bright future for all children and our community. His goal is to direct more dollars in the classroom without placing more of a burden on Carlsbad taxpayers. In his spare time he surfs, swims, plays tennis, and enjoys traveling with his wife.

KathyKathy Rallings, Clerk - Email / Trustee Area 5
Kathy Rallings was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2014.  She grew up in Huntington Beach, California, and is a product of the California public school system.  She received a B.A. in Speech Communications from California State University, Long Beach, and an M.A. in Negotiations and Conflict Management from California State University, Dominguez Hills.  She has an adult son who is attending the University of Washington and pursuing a baseball career and a son who attends elementary school in the district.  She is currently a Health Benefits Specialist, assisting public school districts throughout California to become more knowledgeable purchasers of health care.  Her vision for Carlsbad schools is to create an environment of engagement with parents, teachers, and community members to support our students and to prepare them for the future.  In her spare time, Kathy enjoys spending time with family, playing tennis, water and snow skiing, and watching her older son play baseball.

Veronica Williams was elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2010. Born in San Diego, Veronica and her husband have lived in Carlsbad since 2000 and have two young boys. She received her degree in Mathematics with an emphasis in Computer Science. She is a small business owner developing online solutions for private and public entities. In the fall of 2012, she received her certification in the California School Boards Association Masters in Governance program. Ms. William's two sons attend a CUSD elementary school. Her priorities for CUSD are: To develop and prepare our students for the 21st-century workplace, improve student achievement, outcomes, and graduation rate, and teach students to become lifelong learners in a safe and healthy environment. Besides Ms. William's passion for education and technology, she is an avid sportsman – trail runner, adventure racer, soccer player, and flying trapeze artist.

 Claudine JonesClaudine Jones, Member - Email / Trustee Area 4 Mrs. Claudine Jones has lived in Carlsbad for over 17 years with her husband and two children. She received her BS from Michigan State University. She completed her CASBO CBO certification at the University of Southern California, and is expected to graduate with her Masters in Professional Accounting from Colorado State in November 2022. She was appointed to the Board of Trustees in September 2013, and her current term runs through December 2022. Before moving to Carlsbad, Mrs. Jones was a corporate merchandiser for Gap, Inc., and a web producer in the Yahoo Shopping division. Mrs. Jones serves on the Carlsbad High School PTSA Board; she is the treasurer for the San Diego County School Boards Association, and is an elected Delegate for the California School Boards Association.  She also serves as the education committee liaison for the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego. She enjoys spending time with children in the classrooms, tutoring, and mentoring.

Jasmina Pesakovic - Carlsbad High School

Jasmina (Mina) Pesakovic is a 12th-grade student at Carlsbad High School. Mina feels that her job is important because she can provide the board a student perspective on issues around the district while keeping the student body informed about board decisions. Mina looks forward to bridging the gap between the two groups to assure that all voices are heard while maintaining respect and fairness to both sides. This year her class schedule includes AP Economics, AP Statistics, English 4 AP, Spanish 4 AP, Broadcast Journalism, and ASB. Mina also serves as the Activities Director on the ASB Executive Council, an Executive Producer for CHSTV, and a student member of Carlsbad High’s Site Council. After high school, she plans to attend a four-year university majoring in International Affairs/Relations to prepare herself for law school. Mina will become fluent in Spanish this year and already knows how to speak Serbian. She would like to study other languages in college such as Mandarin, German, and/or Arabic to learn about other languages and cultures for a career in Foreign Service.


Mia Humphrey - Sage Creek High School

Mia Humphrey is a 12th-grade student at Sage Creek High School. She feels that her job is important because in this position she can establish communication between the Board of Trustees and the students within the Carlsbad Unified School District. Mia feels that acting as a liaison is vital in keeping a connected community and it is her job to make sure that student voices are heard. This year her class schedule includes AP Macroeconomics, AP English Literature, Statistics, ASL 4 Honors, Biomedical Innovation, Peer Assistance Listeners (PALS), and Theater. After high school, she plans to attend a four-year college, where she hopes to learn as much as she can and grow as an individual when faced with challenges and new experiences. Her interests and hobbies include dancing, playing guitar and piano, hiking, climbing, and surfing. She loves the outdoors and traveling. Spending time with family and friends is very important to her. She is currently working on opening a non-profit organization with her family, in honor of her dad, to help people get outside and use nature to manage grief and hardships.

Daylyn Rose Chunko - Carlsbad Seaside Academy

Daylyn Rose Chunko is a 12th-grade student at Carlsbad Seaside Academy. Daylyn believes her job is important because she feels that students should play a substantial part in the decision-making process as every decision made by the board affects students. Daylyn will do her part by making sure that student voices are heard. This year her classes will include Forensics (speech and debate), Theatre, Global Studies, English, Geography, Astronomy, Marine Science, and US government. After high school, she plans to attend a four-year university, likely in Washington, Oregon, or Massachusetts. Mia then would like to then enter the Peace Corps for two or more years to become a foreign service officer.
